Saltwater Pools in Florida: What the System Actually Does
A saltwater pool uses equipment to produce chlorine from dissolved salt. It is still a chlorinated pool and still requires water testing, equipment care, and a maintenance plan.

Understand the treatment system
Ask how the proposed generator is sized for the pool and how output will be adjusted. Review the manufacturer instructions for water balance and cleaning. A generator does not remove the need to monitor sanitizer and other water conditions.
Review compatibility and service
Discuss the compatibility of nearby materials and equipment with the proposed system. Ask about cell inspection, replacement, and the controls available to the user. Compare those ongoing tasks with the alternative treatment method you are considering.
Your next planning step
Request equipment model numbers and a startup explanation. Choose the treatment method based on the complete maintenance routine rather than the assumption that saltwater means maintenance-free.
Prepare for a productive consultation
Bring photographs, available plans or a survey, and a short list of priorities. Separate essential work from optional upgrades so the discussion can produce a clear base scope. Share the budget range you are comfortable considering and explain any deadline that affects your plans.
Ask the contractor to identify what can be confirmed during the visit and what needs further investigation. Record selections, exclusions, and unanswered questions in writing. A useful estimate explains its assumptions and responsibilities; it should give you a basis for decisions rather than only a number.
